"Analysis is probably a better phrase about what I'm writing about rather then review"
So here it is, the final movie ofEdgar Wright'sCornetto trilogy "The worlds end". If you haven't seen the other two, I really recommend you do, both "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot-Fuzz" are amazingly entertaining and damn right hilarious.
"20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends
reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking
marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King,
a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags
his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach
the fabled pub, The World's End. As they attempt to reconcile the past
and present, they realise the real struggle is for the future, not just
theirs but humankind's. Reaching The World's End is the least of their
worries"(The World's end official Facebook page)
Edgar Wright (director), Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are back once again with the final addition to the Corntto trilogy. However this time they are joined by afew more additions to the cast, such as Martin Freeman who was in Hot-Fuzz for a few scenes but luckily he is playing a bigger role this time as Oliver; one of the pub crawlers, I'm greatly looking forward to seeing his performance. Also including Rosamund Pike, Paddy Considine, David Bradley and the talented Eddie Marson. All of these amazing and well known actors in one production, is sure to be an awesome show and I can't wait.
Now it wouldn’t be a Cornetto film if there wasn’t a pub involved and what a way to finish the series with a good old pub-crawl. In an IGN interview, Simon Pegg claimed that their films are very British. Pubs are British and they are a part of our culture, so it makes sense to make films around pubs.
This film has a lot more computer animated effects then their other films. With all of the glowing eyes and robots this could be influenced by "Paul" which they released back in 2011. The effects are not bad or brilliant by avatar standards but this is a British comedy film, I'm not expecting anything big like that, but its still good to see.
I am glad that they have kept some of the traditions from there previous films such as the pubs but also some of the comedy scenes, such as the fence hopping at the end of the trailer, which fans of the trilogy would have immediately recognised, but still tweaking it to keep it original, perfect. But they also keep that pub violence against a mass of people which I love, for example in Shaun of the dead it was zombies, hot-fuzz the village cult and now robots looks awesome.
So the film comes out on July 19th and I will defiantly go see it in the cinemas to give you all a fullreview. "So prepare to get annihilated and a little hungover".
Also check out this trailer which a bit more dialogue:
Hangover, part 3was one of my hotly anticipated films finally came out today. I was unlucky enough to miss out on the first two and resorted to the original DVD format and I'm extremely glad I didn't let Hangover sit on the shelf until the last minute. I did however miss out Due Date which ties in within the movie for a short scene but it is nothing that is to drastic.
Surprisingly, this movie doesn't begin with the obligatory piss up that ends up with the Wolf pack running around to find Doug and explain the drug fuelled night. This one focuses on the capturing of Chow; the cocaine loving psychopath. The final instalment in the Hangover trilogy is one that wraps up the connection to Chow and why he kept appearing throughout the series and his criminal activities. To fuel his lifestyle and addiction, Chow robs another criminal boss named "Marshall" of several million dollars worth of gold bars. After spending fortunes and ending up in a Bangkok prison after part 2, he escapes and becomes an international villain on the run from both the police and Marshall. Marshall then captures the Wolf pack and forces them to hunt down Chow and capture him or Doug dies.
In terms of story, you can see that it has taken a different turn and has become a little more serious. Although, in the ending credits, we are greeted with the day after a heavy night out to find everyone hanging and Stu with a new rack (I will let you figure that one out). I certainly enjoyed the reversal of the story and the introduction of a truly deadly force that will and does kill and the introduction of a new love interest. The danger was amped up and the twists within are very precise and quick. As I mentioned prior, the story blends with the past movies and is great at entwining old characters and stories to close the final movie. However, at the end we do see the possibility that the franchise has been left at a point that could be ridden upon if money gets tight for Legendary studios and Green Hat.
"I'm sorry, I can't quite hear you over the noise of my good looks and money"
The comedy throughout was a constant and didn't wear thin. Yet it wasn't rip roaring and I wasn't gasping for air or tearing at the excessively stupid antics. The jokes were written well, flowed well without interruption and were executed brilliantly. The collection of actors could hold themselves without losing form. The examples of this are Zach Galifianakis and Melissa McCarthy who can hold a room with a simple longing gaze, their ability to ignore their surroundings and create an unbelievably awkward situation without actually saying anything is flawless. Bradley Cooper also fills his role quite well, managing to retain the badass persona to life that made him so popular with the crowds (his looks also help). The film was also shot brilliantly. I enjoyed the contrast and the lighting that rolled throughout the movie. Close up shots filled space but felt natural in their surroundings. The landscape shots where expansive and incredibly strong. Jumping from bright desert wasteland of Mexico too the luminescent city of Las Vegas was gorgeous. Colours bounced around of the screen and seeing the iconic city at a height like that at night is something that only some have done. It is the stereotypical way that we perceive Vegas to be.
Overall, the movie was great fun. It's got plenty of laughs and has some brilliant actors to back it up. I am rating this movie as a 7.5/10, simply because I wanted to harder hitting jokes and a little bit more in the story franchise. I felt myself wanting a little extra from the movie but it is still an enjoyable film.
Here it is guys. The New XBOX ONE. Not Druango or 720, just One.
After watching the event, I felt a little underwhelmed. After trouble connecting to the event and the constant stream of traffic which was abusing it like Chris Brown on Rihanna. I couldn't focus on the whole show and missed some informative sections.
But here is what I am aware of:
The console defiantly involves Blu-ray
Editing tools for captured gameplay
Skype connectivity
A load of new engine and graphic work
300,000 servers for Xbox Live
Much like Playstation; Microsoft are holding back the nitty gritty of the Xbox and will give far more indepth knowledge at this years E3 event.
Personally, I look at this console and worry that it has taken a step back. The shell has formed into a brick or desktop computer and the accessories are blending with it. It doesn't look as sleek and as aggressive that the Xbox Elite or its more recent counterparts.
Will it be compatible with my headset, game recorder and backwards compatible with the Xbox 360 games without restricting saves and additional content. Will Xbox games now be made for One or will they land it both courts?
I guess we will have to wait for E3 and get some real information about "The new generation of gaming"
Hello all and welcome back to Black Ribbon Reviews! I am back on a regular basis with news, reviews and anything else I can do!
Vin Diesel and Paul walker return to put peddle to the metal and kick some ass with the aid of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Packed with action, violence and extreme situations, this movie really packs a punch and keeps the story flowing effectively. As we are all aware, the Fast and Furious franchise is a huge money maker with many dedicated fans (One being me). If you are not aware, this movie is still before Tokyo Drift and is the last one to prequel it story wise.
Talking of the story, its not extensive. O'Connor and Toretto are called upon by Hobbs to help chase down the tyrant; Owen Shaw. All because Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) miraculously appears after her apparent death. It's a very simple and linear story with a few twists within to vary it from the rest but it doesn't stop it from being very weak. Yet who really wants a deep and gritty, action drama flick with cars and the 'classy' broads? Exactly. The Fast franchise has their demographic precision engineered, which made it the $3 billion franchise it is today.
Jumping in head first, we are dropped into a race between an Import and some V8 Muscle through the winding landscape at high speed. Yet is it high speed? We follow them and notice the extreme use of the producers fast forward button which ruined the effects of speed and where way to blazay for something which prides itself on driving. The effects role throughout and really pull the movie down.Plymouth
Road Runner
Superbird into the crash barrier and flinging Don into the air to catch Letty and conveniently land on a beat up Merc was just way to much. Scenes like this smelt so bad of cheese, I could almost hear Wallace in the background screaming "Cheese Gromit!". The cheese ball visuals isn't the end of it. A few lines are placed in which grind on me (I also don't appreciate the
destruction of a mint condition Mustang fastback. Let's have a moment to
remember what it never got to achieve in this film).
Many other scenes were also edited similarly which gave a huge chunk of chase scenes a clunky and unprofessional feel. I'm no pro driver, but I'm well aware of what you can do and get away with. Crashing your $300,000
Can you smell what the rock is cooking? I can, it's a knuckle sandwich with a side order of STFU
Speaking of lines, the actors are generally good. They play simple roles with little character depth until the end which we see Han (Sung Kang) after the loss of his women, Gisele. It got very little screen time but Han's rage was generally believable and gives us a little context of his suicidal drifting in Tokyo. In contrast, we have Letty, I genuinely think Rodriguez is a bit of a blunt tool when up against the rest and plays the same role across all movies and by now you would expect her to be the best at it, right? The movie has many fight scenes which are creative and fluid in execution, with brutal executions and general badassery. The variation in styles and a scene that juxtaposes Han and Roman to Riley was quite amusing and bits like this certainly made the whole cinema audience giggle or laugh out loud.
(MAJOR SPOILER) Soon after the credits star rolling, we meet Jason Statham in the credit timelapse to Han's explosive death after a drift went wrong. Jason play Ian Shaw. Owen Shaw's brother who I can only presume is seeking revenge for the death of his brother and is making a statement by killing Dom's closest friend. This confirms our next villain and that Jason Statham is appearing!
On the topic of villains, what is it with us Brits being the bad guys? The worst part about it, it even picks on a few of our social minorities. A black and polish immigrants and black youth are the key here. These groups already get crap from the racist public but don't ride on that and give the uneducated fools something to stand on. It may just be me looking to deep into it but it never is good
to portray it to the mindless folk. However, our consolation prize is that we get it before the US...Again and that it was filmed in London!
Overall, the movie is predominately for a certain group of people. Men. It's a movie that lacks emotional connection and is simply there for good fun and is great for a Friday night out or after a particularly boring policy exam you had an hour before the movie...
With lack of anything to critically analyse, the fun side of the movie is what I shall be giving a score for. The Fun Factor is 7/10, its outrageous use of cars and the creative minds of the writers (who I can only presume to have been high) really add that little bit of fun and the credit cameo by Jason was truly kick ass.
J.J
Abrams has done it again, Into darkness is a brilliantly made film and visually
beautiful. Star Trek was always controversial with its use of current situations to display through popular culture and really helped to revolutionise the casting for productions of all type and style. Abrams has held the classic integrity and uses Kahn to represent the terrorist threat of Al Qaeda.
In the opening of the movie, we follow a chase scene through a vivid red forest of a sheathed Kirk who is being chased by aliens with white faces in bright yellow clothing. The contrast of colour is amazing and certainly needs to be seen on the big screen to truly appreciate it. Once this introduction scene is over, we are introduced to our bad guy for the evening; Khan. Any Trekkie will know this name from an older Star Trek film "Wrath of Kahn" (Yet I'm no Trekkie and was still aware of this!). Then some explosions happen and Kirk travels into enemy territory to kick some butt, only to find the Kahn is a one man army who is superior to everyone.
Visually this movie is flawless. I can't help but think of what it would have looked like in 3D. Set designs were extensive and modern. Building were a mix of classic with a splash of modern architecture. The CGI is exactly the same. The Enterprise looked lifelike and when it shot into warp it kept its definition and colour without being stretched and looking ridiculous. The fight scenes were also executed very well. However some of the movements seemed over exaggerated and could have done with a little less super hero effects.
With a collection of the current biggest actors, this film isn't short of brilliant performances. Chris Pine does a brilliant representation of Kirk, his facial expressions blend and he acts with ease and efficiency. Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of Kahn is admirable, however I felt his facial expressions are a little over the top and as much as they help convey anger, they make him look like he is sobbing or having a tantrum. Apart from this he plays Kahn well. However, Karl Urban who plays Bones (the doctor dude) is very annoying. I'm not sure if it is the character or him. Bones likes to say "Dammit" a lot and spout some poetry, yet Karl doesn't help when he doesn't have the ability to move any facial muscles to make him smile for once. He looks like he has been hit with a spade and is still reeling from the shock. The rest of the cast are very good and all play there parts brilliantly.
The initial story for Into Darkness is very simple. Kahn is killing people, Stop him. Yet deeper into the story we are confronted by another evil using Kahn for his gain and Kirk and Kahn team up to stop this threat. I'm not going to ruin the plot for you but stuff goes down! Expect a few plot twists.
Overall this movie is beautifully shot, written and executed. With fluid fight scenes and witty one liners the story doesn't lose its charm, but isn't diminished by the gritty aspect of the story. I recommend seeing it and I agree with IMDB's rating for it. 8.5/10
With a varied cast and a few big stars. Most notably, Mads Mikkelsen with his portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, the scariest, darkest and most thrilling character I have seen for quite some time.
Yet, let's start with our main protagonist. Will Graham, the psychoanalyst with a mind so complex, with dark twists and an explosive imagination. Will is called in by Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) to help with some cases. Eventually we come across Hannibal who is also a psychoanalyst and psychologist. His role is to analyse Will and see if he is fit to do the job efficiently and see if he is compromised. Other than this, he tries to befriend him.
The acting throughout was brilliant. With well written lines and the actors ability to show the emotion perfectly, it almost becomes real. Mixed with the dark tints that cover the screen, the sharp cuts and extensive use of shots, scenes become gritty and fill you with tension. After finding that Hannibal is eating body parts, we see him cook it and then serve it to an unsuspecting Will Graham as breakfast. The moment made me wince and swallow the vomit that was slowly trying to work its way out of me.
I strongly recommend this to everyone who reads this. It's a little gruesome, but its a work of art and is probably one of the best shows I have seen in a while. 8.5/10!
Welcome back to Black Ribbon Reviews, sorry I haven't had much, if any new content up but I have exams coming up and there is also little out at the moment!
Next Week : Star Trek - Into Darkness!
As one of the biggest artists in our generation, you would suspect that Will.I.Am's albums should relate to his success. However, this album really doesn't fit.
The album is 1 hour 12 mins long with 18 tracks, so there is plenty for you money, yet it does feel as if that's all he really wanted. For instance, the song with Justin Beiber being a Single is actually not very good in comparison to another song on the album. While some of the songs seems to lack a punch.
The album is very bassy and has a nice variation of genres and backing tracks but lyrically, it is really lacking. Geekin' and Ghetto Ghetto songs are the perfect examples. It truly is weak, not Lil Wayne's new album bad but bad. Yet some albums are good with lyrics, for instance , Smile Mona Lisa is a very good song. Smile Mona Lisa has an Italian flair to it which sticks out prominently against the typically bass drops and dance music. Then you have Bang Bang straight after which feels like 40's swing music and is a great end to the album. The generic club tracks are alright. The bass drops are a particular favourite of mine. They are executed well and are grimy in comparison to the clean cut synth sounds.
The variation throughout does make the whole album bearable but it's a very brain-dead, you don't really focus on the music until you are at the last 2 songs which are outrageously different. I feel that the album wouldn't appeal to those that have quite a substantial music taste and who pay attention to their music. So I shall be given this album a 6/10.
Yes, you have read the title right. Another Die Hard Movie. It's official, we have the name; "Die Hardest" (Original, IKR!).
The upcoming instalment is currently being written by Ben Trebilcook (Google him). Can we trust this to be better than the disaster of A good day to die hard?, no doubt about it. A movie that censors the majority of violence out, just to get a few kids to watch it is money grabbing and made the film feel shoddy and unfinished. Yet, do we really need a sequel? 4.0 was pretty good. Brucy shot a helicopter out of the sky with a police car...that's pretty badass. Plus there was plenty of explosions and swearing which didn't quickly jump to another scene when Willis goes to spits out blood...
As you may already be able to tell, I had many problems with Die Hard 5, I only hope that the DVD
has everything uncensored, but I won't be buying that for quite some time.
Willis is good, but is he trying to grab a little more cash out of the franchise or is it because he is damn bored? We will never know. I like to think he is filling space until he is needed on the set of The Expendables 3 (My favourite brain dead movie watches).
Anyway, enough of my hate and trash talk.
